Action Drones: Inside the Event
An action drone can move through backstage areas, follow performers onto the stage, pass through the crowd and sweep through the whole space in one continuous take. The footage feels live because it was. You're not watching the event from above, you're in it.
That's the difference from standard event filming. A conventional drone hovers above the venue and records from a safe distance. An action drone flies through it, and that movement is usually what people end up sharing.
Traditional Aerial: The Scale and Overview
Wide aerial shots still earn their place at events: the venue from above, the size of the crowd, the golden hour sweep across a festival site. They look good, and they're what most drone operators offer.
I include them when the brief calls for it. The overview tells people where they are. The action drone footage is what makes them feel like they were there. Both have a job to do, they just don't get equal billing.
