Preparing Your Home for a Drone Fly-Through Video

It’s the first reaction most people have, and it’s completely fair.

At Aerial Action, we use small, modern FPV (first person view) drones designed specifically for controlled indoor filming. They are lightweight, highly responsive, and fitted with protective features, making them suitable for this kind of work. Every flight is carefully planned in advance and carried out by experienced pilots, so the entire process is safe, controlled, and considered from start to finish.

We also do not rely on a single continuous take. If there are areas you would rather not show, or spaces that are not quite ready, we simply film in sections and edit everything together. This gives us flexibility and takes the pressure off needing everything to be perfect at once.

Alongside the drone, we also use smooth gimbal-based ground cameras. This allows us to blend dynamic movement with steady, detailed shots, giving a more complete and polished final video that properly represents the property.

We often fly in through large patio doors or wide front doors, so these areas are worth a bit of attention. Keep the approach clear, and make sure the space just inside the door is tidy so the transition into the home feels smooth and natural.

Pets

If you have pets, it is best to keep them in a separate room or off site during filming. Some animals can be unsettled by drones, so this keeps them comfortable and allows everything to run without interruption.

The outside is just as important as the inside, especially as it often sets the tone for the entire video.

First Impressions

The front of the property is usually the first thing viewers see. Moving cars away from the front, putting bins out of sight, and giving paths or patios a quick tidy all help create a clean, open look.

Keep It Clean and Simple

Outdoor spaces do not need to be staged, but they should feel looked after. Neatly arranged garden furniture is fine, but anything broken, worn, or out of place is best removed. A simple, tidy space always comes across better on camera.

The Approach to the Property

As we often move towards and into the home, the approach itself becomes part of the shot. Driveways, paths, and entrances should be clear and easy to follow. This helps the transition from outside to inside feel natural and uninterrupted.

It does not need to be perfect. A quick tidy and a bit of attention to detail go a long way. When the exterior feels clean and well kept, it lifts the overall impression of the property before we even step inside.
